IMPORTANT NOTICE: It’s Possible to Attend this in ‘Virtual Trainer’ Format During COVID-19 Lockdown

These Scheme Rules have been implemented by CITB as a result of extraordinary circumstances impacting the regular provision of training to the construction industry. This measure is designed to maintain a level of training in the industry for existing Site Workers, ensuring a continued understanding of legislative changes and their impact on the workplace. The CITB Health & Safety Awareness (Virtual Trainer) courses can be temporarily delivered remotely by a tutor over a video call.

The CITB 1-Day Health and Safety Awareness course helps employees to recognise and identify hazards and risks that surround them on a daily basis. Anyone attending the HSA course will be made aware of their own duties regarding their own health and safety and how their responsibilities and actions can affect others around them.

CITB Health and Safety Awareness Course Overview

In addition to highlighting self-awareness and hazards the aim of the CITB Health and Safety Awareness course is to give a summary of health and safety in the workplace. The training will include information regarding what employers need to be doing for their employees as well as making sure that the individual knows what is required of them if they are concerned over any issues regarding their own, and others health and safety. The core skill s successful candidates take with them are:

  • Understand the importance of preventing accidents
  • Have a basic understanding of the health and safety law
  • Understand why risk assessments and method statements are necessary
  • Obligations regarding unsafe activities in order to prevent accidents
  • The importance of working safely and asking for help and guidance in times of uncertainty
  • Recognising the importance of their role and how it relates to controlling and managing the rest of the site

The CITB 1-Day Health and Safety Awareness course is ideal for anyone who has recently started working, or is new to either the construction or civil engineering industry. The awarding body of this site safety qualification is the CITB – Construction Industry Training Board (CSkills) for the UK. The Board was established in 1964 and they continue to offer valuable and recognised training throughout the UK. This is the ideal place to start for newcomers into the industry and the perfect foundation for the SSSTS training and the SMSTS course which will help you to progress further with your complete health and safety training.

You will need to set aside one day to complete the training. There are various dates available and class sizes are limited to twenty places in order to offer the best possible training. In order to pass the course you will be given a set of multiple choice questions that will need to be answered. You must also be interactive throughout the day and join in with the activities.

Employers will benefit by having employees who have been introduced into the basis health and safety concerns and responsibilities. This will contribute to reducing the risks that come with the construction and civil engineering industries.
