IMPORTANT NOTICE: It's Possible to Attend this in ‘Virtual Trainer’ Format During COVID-19 Lockdown
These Scheme Rules have been implemented by CITB as a result of extraordinary circumstances impacting the regular provision of training to the construction industry. This measure is designed to maintain a level of training in the industry for existing Site Supervisors, ensuring a continued understanding of legislative changes and their impact on the workplace. The CITB SSSTS Refresher (Virtual Trainer) courses can be temporarily delivered remotely by a tutor over a video call.
Certificate Expiry - any delegate whose SSSTS achievement has expired since 15 March 2020 and who hasn’t been able to renew in time due to COVID-19, will be allowed to take the refresher rather than the full course. This amendment will remain in place until 30th September 2020. CITB will continue to review this date to ensure that delegates are not unduly disadvantaged, due to COVID-19.
CITB SSSTS Refresher
The CITB SSSTS Refresher course is designed to ensure all past delegates of the two day CITB SSSTS remain up to date with the latest methods and laws regarding health and safety in the construction industry. You will be taught the changes in the laws and regulations as well as the impacts these changes have had on-site. The sole aim of the course is to ensure all supervisors receive the latest training to ensure their working methods remain within the law.
Individuals wishing to renew their supervisor certificate must provide a copy of the original 2-day course certificate. Details of the course venue and the date of the course should also be provided if known. Only those individuals who have passed the two day course and provided evidence of this will be eligible to attend the refresher course.
Official Qualification Title
Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme Refresher
CITB Construction Skills (CSkills)
Attendees Will Learn
All attendees will leave the course knowing:
Their responsibilities relating to health and safety welfare
How to implement the current legislations under their role as a supervisor
How to manage their daily duties whilst remaining aware of their responsibilities and the duties place on them regarding health and safety
This course is aimed towards all employees in supervisory roles who have previously attended the two day site supervisor course and gained the qualification. The SSSTS refresher course is required every five years to keep health and safety training current and up to date. This is a recognised qualification and now a requirement set out by Build UK (previously known as UKCG).
The SSSTS refresher course lasts for just one day. The course is held in multiple locations and at regular times throughout the year.
Assessment and Exam
Successful completion of the SSSTS refresher course will revalidate the certificate for a further five years. If your certificate has expired you will not be able to take the refresher course and will need to take the two day course again in order to achieve the qualification.
Benefits of the Training
Supervisors on site remain qualified and hold a recognised certificate to prove they have the necessary skills in health and safety. It shows you are complying with the law regarding the training of your employees.
We recommend the five day SMSTS course. The training is suitable for site managers, project managers and and anyone else in a managerial position and who is responsible for health and safety on site.
Delegates attending a refresher course, must bring with them their current valid CITB certificate. Failure to do so may result in them not being allowed to complete the refresher course. Delegates may also be asked to provide a copy at the time of booking.
CITB Levy Payers
To allow for the automated process of claiming back the training grant, please ensure that delegates attending courses, take the Levy Number & enter it on the relevant section of the course paperwork. Retrospective claims may not be accepted.
